The Portobello Collection

We look to the British seaside for the sugared tones of our new Portobello Collection: sun, sea & sand are the inspiration for this nostalgic nod to the staycations of our childhoods. The fresh pastel colours of candyfloss, ice lollies & timeless British beach huts combine with airy weaves and specially selected summer yarns, making the Portobello Collection a perfect choice this summer.

There is nothing more reminiscent of British summertime than sandy sandwiches eaten next to pastel toned beach huts and faded fishing boats. This Collection is named after our local beach Portobello; a suburb of the Scottish capital famous for its Georgian & Victorian architecture, as well as its long sandy beaches and wonderfully faded aesthetic.

Any sunny summer day will see hundreds of people flock from the city and surrounding areas to make the most of the weather by paddling in the freezing waters, munching on candyfloss and 99s and maybe having a fish supper by the shore.

The Middle Earth Collection: Smaug

We return to Middle-Earth for this much anticipated new design inspired by the world of Tolkien. Taking our Collection to new depths we embrace the darker side of Middle-Earth with a trip to Smaug’s Lonely Mountain lair …

Smaug The Magnificent

This new addition to our Middle Earth Collection is an original design based on the fearsome dragon, Smaug, who guards the wealth of the Dwarves of Erebor within the Lonely Mountain. Our designer, Mike, worked through some brilliantly terrifying designs before settling on this ferocious creature.

The Elemental Collection: Traditional Scottish Textiles

As the Elemental Collection celebrates the harsh diversity of the Scottish elements we take inspiration from the traditional textile techniques that have graced the protective layers worn by generations of families in Scotland for three intricate new designs and a gorgeous new Sea Island Cotton warp.

Lace and knitwear are inextricably linked with their Scottish origins, so when examining traditional textile techniques our gaze naturally fell on these heritage crafts. From this inspiration grew Croft, Sono and Lace: three new designs created for the Elemental Collection.

Oscha’s Design Book: Shire

Introducing our new Middle-earth pattern: Shire. Our designers have spent the last two years studying descriptions of The Shire in the works of Tolkien and developing the design in order to capture the essence of the Hobbit homeland.

This amazingly detailed pattern features the iconic circular doorway of the Baggins’ home. This homely scene evokes the pages of a classic storybook as smoke rises from warm hearths and well tended gardens teem with life. This is a stunning pattern which tells the whimsical tale of the Hobbit home.Oscha's Shire Drawing

This design has been a labour of love: bringing together the lore from the world of Tolkien and Oscha’s unique aesthetic to create this stunning Shire pattern. There have been many hand-drawn iterations perfecting the layout of this intricate design before we were happy inking in every tiny detail for the final version.

Wovens from Middle-Earth: The Tales of Tolkien Woven by Oscha Slings

We are proud to present The Middle-Earth Collection, the official collection of baby wraps and ring slings inspired by the world of J.R.R Tolkien.

This collection is the result of a long-held desire here at Oscha to create a collection inspired by the world set out in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Drawing inspiration from the rich tales in the works of Tolkien, and with exclusive rights from Middle-earth Enterprises, we have created a series of gorgeous designs steeped in a mythology that has enthralled generations of children and adults.

With designs reflecting every detail of this world, from the geography of Middle-earth to individual characters, this Collection spans the breadth of this immersive tale.

We feel that the carefully crafted creation of this world naturally complements Oscha’s unique, timeless aesthetic. A shared dedication to creating a considered piece of art, along with a devotion to the minutiae of this folklore has allowed us to bring Middle-earth to life in an authentic and tasteful way: creating truly wearable art for our fans.

Katican – A New Design By Ali Yee

Ali Yee first contacted Oscha in an effort to raise money for Habitat for Humanity in 2014 after Typhoon Haiyan in the Philipinnes. We were delighted to work together and create the beautiful Visayas sling as a charity wrap. Since then we have been keen to explore a new pattern with Ali, based on her intricate & bold tattoo-style artwork. Ali is half Filipino and is a member of Tatak Ng Apat Na Alon, a modern day tribe which celebrates the renaissance of traditional Filipino tribal tattoos. Using her art as a mode of storytelling and as an exploration of her heritage she brings her new pattern Katican to life.

Katican Chorus was inspired by a trip Ali took to the Philippines in 2009 with her family, she visited the towns where her father and step-mother grew up and enjoyed piecing together aspects of her cultural heritage. She visited during a time of much celebration where her step-grandmother was the Hermana Mayor, or sponsor, of the Feast of the Holy Rosary. This included an amazing, colourful procession, dance performances and a huge feast, all of which made up the Fiesta.

“After the Fiesta, we took a boat to Tubaobao island and Pearl Island, also known as Katican.  Pearl Island is a marine life sanctuary with lots of giant clams and is a great spot for beach combing sea shells and coral. “
