One of the things I love most about wrapping my babies is experimenting with different carries and finishes. There are SO MANY fancy finishes out there for every carry and wrap size – just a quick YouTube search will get you dozens of tutorials!
For those just starting out – or are just in need of quick, easy finishes – then check out these 6 easy fancy finishes for double hammock carries featuring Oscha Slings’ Rei Electric Dreams!
My criteria for choosing these finishes are that they must:
Look complicated and pretty (obviously this is quite subjective)
Be able to get done quickly (with less that 3 steps for the finish before tying off – the basic Double Hammock steps are excluded from this, of course
Be easy to master (you should be able to do these without watching a video after doing them a couple of times)
Three of these (Freshwater, Saltwater, and Candy Cane Chest Belt) I do very often, but the other three (Sweetheart, Poppin’s, and Pond) I only tried for the first time for the purpose of this post. The fact they look so good in these photos is proof of how easy they are to do!
Wool is a great yarn for warmer weather! Seems strange, but it is true … the temperature regulating qualities of wool make it a good choice for keeping cool in warmer weather. Our model, Yun tells us how, even in the heat of a Hawaiian summer, wool can be an amazing choice.
“I love wool!! I had been resistant to even trying it since our temperate weather never gets colder than 60º F (16ºC) and gets up to the 90s (over 32ºC) at times, but man was I missing out! Then I used Roses Nova for Jaxon’s newborn phase and loved it even though we were experiencing one of the warmest summers in history here in Hawaii. There’s really something special about a wrap that just conforms to your body, regulates both your temperatures and well….the softness and cush, especially for a newborn.”
You can read more about the provenance of our wool yarns here.
Woollen fabrics have built-in climate control as the fibers are nonconductors of heat allowing the body to properly regulate its temperature. The scales on the surface of the fiber and its natural crimp make for little pockets of air that serve as an insulating barrier and give warmth. Amazingly, lightweight wool can also work for summer wear because of its thermostatic quality. Wool is, therefore, a natural insulator keeping us warm in winter whilst also being breathable to keep us cool in summer.
Our gorgeous Elvish colourway brings the Middle Earth Collection to a close for now. We will return with new Mithril Collection wraps in the Autumn and with new warps and designs in the new year, but we end our 2017 additions with Galadriel & Evenstar Haven.
We’ve written recently about how carrying your baby in a sling can promote breastfeeding. A sling can also help practically, as you can breastfeed safely and comfortably in all Oscha wraps, ring slings and carriers.
Using a carrier for breastfeeding/nursing can bring an amazing freedom as you use your carrier as a feeding aid. Carriers can help you to support your baby’s weight, while you support their head with one hand and use the other to latch on. It’s especially great for the early days when both you and your baby are still learning to feed and getting to know each other.
It also easily provides comfort – no more piling up pillows on your knee to get your baby to the right height, or leaning down and getting a sore neck, as you can easily use the carrier to spread the weight evenly across your back.

With the holiday season in full swing, our minds ponder to exotic locations, there’s one place we know that carrying makes a huge difference; the airport. Your adventure is just a few hours away, but first, you’ve got to navigate the chaos of the terminal! We asked our lovely customers in our Clan Oscha group if they had any tips and wisdom to share with us to help you arrive at your destination, cool, relaxed and ready to start your holiday!
You’ve made it to the airport – you and lots of cases too. One thing everyone in the Clan agreed on is that while our luggage doesn’t tend to run off – our toddlers may – and so carrying your child not only helps to be ‘hands free’ for cases – but helps lower stress levels while you take in the airport, and figure out where to go.

We are asked all the time “How do I get my dream wrap made?” One of the fun parts of the job here at Oscha is collaborating with groups from around the world who want to commission a customised order. We love the creativity and new ideas our amazing pre-order groups bring, and how they enter into the joy of innovating alongside us.
Read our FAQ below and then its time to get designing!
I’m interested in commissioning a custom order, how do I go about it?
First, you need to have a Facebook group of at least 700 members who are interested too. Maybe you’re already chatting to them about the Oscha’s they love and the colourways, patterns and products that excite them. Then you’ll need to send us an email so we can send you more information & an application form where you can tell us about your group’s ideas.
As we add new colourways to our Coastal Collection this summer, we welcome 3 new designs to the Oscha family. Our organic combed cotton soft aqua warp is the perfect backdrop for showcasing these new ocean inspired patterns.
Developed from our designer, Evonne’s, original drawings, this marine-scape is a magical, illustrative take on life under-the-sea. Flowing seaweeds and spiralling corals interlock in ever changing ways in this intricate design. The more you look at the delicate lines of this new pattern, the more you feel yourself diving into the tropical deeps to swim amongst the marine life! Shown in a simple aqua and ecru colourway this wrap is the perfect way to showcase this complex new design.
When this baby landed on my doorstep I must admit I was a little bit in awe of its beauty, Oscha make some absolutely stunning wraps and this was one of my favourites, the colours and pattern on this wrap are almost magical!
“What are the best slings for the heat?” – This is a question we get asked all the time as the weather begins to warm up and people start to begin travelling to warmer climates than they are used to!
Comfy carrying in the summer heat comes down to three choices: type of carrier, the fabric and the type of carry you use. Read on for our guide to choosing the right Oscha Sling for you & your little one this summer.
Baby wraps and ring slings are popular choices for summertime carrying as they offer complete adjustability, allowing you and your little one to be comfortable together in the heat. Our Cairis Carrier is also a good option for summer carrying as the unique, lightweight design allows for natural airflow and all the comfort for a traditional woven sling.
